These are large colourful and intuitive works informed by her travels into the Australian landscape. The use of Vinylique paint on polyester allowing a strong palette and vibrancy to the paintings. Catherine Cassidy has exhibited extensively within Australia and in Europe with works being held in both public and private collections.
“Within this body of work lies a process of thinking and doing that relies on a heartfelt response to my natural surroundings. Plasticity of perception, thought and action drives my marks and forms, and although they are loosely based upon lakes and rivers from the south coast of NSW to the Northern Territory, it is imperative that they convey neither specifics or a fixed position in my mind. They often take me by surprise and I respond to these signals as I see them. I really enjoy that they are neither “fish nor fowl” but rather hybrids of a new landscape. Sometimes they verge on non-landscape and into an intermediary world between the perceived and the actualised. As long as the works are alive and communicate this life and energy to you the viewer, I am happy”
