Dungog Contemporary Presents - "LOOKING THROUGH A WINDOW" JANE FRANCES REILLY

jane frances reilly solo show at dungog contemporary sept 2018

“This body of work has allowed me to make my small miniature stories and scenes into large framed pieces , like looking out a window they are contained.

Using the same techniques as my smaller jewellery pieces, a conversation begins, we all work together, the bumps I’ve hammered in the metal, the drips of paint or marks made accidental or with purpose, I trust my intuition.

My drawings talk of the home, the landscape, the garden, weaving itself into the human experience of building boundaries around us. The view is thru a window and what can be seen, what lines are there and I just let the abstract world I prefer to live in come out.”

Jane Frances Reilly is widely known as an art jeweller. With a practice based in Melbourne, Jane has recently been asked to exhibit in a group show representing a select group of Australian artists and makers at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs Paris. We will be exhibiting a large amount of Jane’s art jewellery along with these new works which are both reversible and designed to be viewed either hanging or standing.

Dungog Contemporary Presents - "WASTELANDS" JO KATSIARIS

jo katsiaris show at dungog contemporary, dungog nsw

Sydney artist Jo Katsiaris presents a multi disciplinary show. By repurposing found material collected from the streets of Sydney and creating objects of beauty and value from waste.

Katsiaris explores themes surrounding the beauty of imperfection and the fragility of the environment by addressing the issues of rampant mass consumerism. The works are in a sense a call to arms. We as humans must make drastic and immediate change in our relationship to consumerism and the environment.

Katsiaris has been a finalist in the Muswellbrook, Glebe, Hornsby and Waverley Art Prize’s. ‘Things we hold dear’.jpg

Madeleine Cruise's new exhibition, “Theatre Of Objects” is the latest body of work from this emerging Newcastle artist. Through a series of still life paintings Madeleine explores the relationship between domestic tasks and the trials and tribulations of life. Like protagonists on a stage, familial forms gather in painterly debate so as to enact conundrums and seek resolution. “Theatre Of Objects” is a wonderfully refreshing collection of works from this artist with a strong reputation.

Ken O'Regan & Ondine Seabrook

Our next two shows both open on Saturday June 30th, do join us for drinks from 3pm onwards to view the works. This will be the the first time we present our new dual exhibition format.

Ken O'Regan is a mid-career Australian artist from Newcastle who has developed a sculptural practice combining found object assemblage with an environmentally conscious theme. Ken O'Regan's work is held in the collections of the Newcastle Art Gallery, Wallsend District Library, The University of Newcastle and in many important private collections. We are thrilled to be showing Ken's work in the larger of our two rooms, which lends itself to installation based exhibitions.

Ondine Seabrook is an emerging artist from Sydney. A painter who graduated from The National Art School in 2017, Ondine Seabrook is represented by China Heights Gallery in Surry Hills. Her work is typically inspired by the Australian landscape, though with her last major experience being a trip through the American western desert, the works on exhibition show clusters of land features common to that area. In a more abstract aesthetic sense Seabrook's new works are concerned with composition, laying and shapes. Ondine's work will be hanging in the smaller light filled front gallery which complements paintings so well.

Dungog Contemporary presents FIONA BARRETT-CLARK

Saturday April the 14th is opening drinks for FIONA BARRETT-CLARK. Join us at the gallery between 3 and 7pm. Fiona's distinctively Australian landscape paintings are executed upon plywood board giving them a unique grainy texture reminiscent of old photographs or slides. Barrett-Clark's paintings give the impression of the enormity of the Australian landscape, void of people but not of human presence.
